The joy of dwelling in God’s presence

Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles, remembers the wilderness journey, when Israel lived in temporary shelters and learned to depend upon the presence and provision of God. The feast also gathers the joy of harvest: God has sustained His people, and His people rejoice before Him.

For Christians, this biblical feast opens a rich vision of God’s desire to dwell with His people. In the Gospel of John, Jesus stands during the feast and calls the thirsty to come to Him and drink. Our hope is not in a ritual performed for its own sake, but in Christ—the One who meets our deepest thirst and gives the life of the Spirit.

Scripture for the gathering

Leviticus 23:33–43 remembers the Feast of Tabernacles; John 7:37–39 directs our thirst toward Christ and the gift of the Spirit.

This special service will make room for worship, the reading of Scripture and prayer. We come with gratitude for God’s faithfulness, with hunger for His living presence, and with hope for the day when God’s dwelling is fully and forever with His people.

Come and rejoice before the Lord

In a city of constant movement, we pause to remember that our security is not found in what we build, but in the God who dwells among His people.
